Privacy Policy

Glyph is a free iOS reader for web novels. We've designed it to need as little of your data as possible. This page explains exactly what we collect, what we don't, and what happens when extensions you install connect to third-party websites.

The short version

What stays on your device

Your library, reading history, bookmarks, downloaded chapters, reader preferences, and installed extension sources are stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData. None of this is transmitted to Glyph.

iCloud sync

If you're signed into iCloud and iCloud Drive is enabled for Glyph, your library and reading progress sync between your devices through Apple's CloudKit service. This data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and is stored in your private iCloud container, Glyph (the app) has access to it on your devices, but the Glyph project (us) does not. Apple's privacy policy applies to this data: apple.com/legal/privacy.

You can disable iCloud sync at any time in Settings → iCloud. Disabling sync does not delete your local data.

Third-party novel sources (extensions)

Glyph extensions connect to websites you choose to install. When you browse, search, or read on a source, Glyph makes HTTP requests directly to that website on your behalf. These requests carry the same information any browser would send (User-Agent, IP address, cookies set by that site, etc.) and are subject to the site's own privacy policy.

Glyph isolates each source with its own cookie storage and restricts network access to the source's declared domain. Extensions cannot read cookies or data from other sources. Cookies are kept in memory and discarded when the app restarts.

Extension repository URLs

When you add a repository URL (for example, a GitHub Pages site that hosts an extension's manifest), Glyph fetches that URL directly from your device. We don't proxy, log, or track which repositories you add.

Diagnostic information

Glyph keeps a local log of network requests and app events for debugging. You can view it in Settings → Developer Tools and share a diagnostic report by tapping Share Diagnostic Report. Reports are never sent automatically, only when you explicitly share one, and only to whoever you share it with (typically the Glyph developer via Discord or email when you report a bug).

If you enable crash reporting in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements, anonymized crash reports may be shared with Apple, who passes a subset to developers via Xcode Organizer. These contain no personal data. You can disable this in iOS settings.

Beta testing (TestFlight)

While Glyph is in beta, Apple's TestFlight handles distribution. TestFlight collects information about your beta usage and crash reports per Apple's own policy: apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/testflight. Feedback you submit through TestFlight goes to us via Apple. We use it only to fix bugs and improve the app.

No third-party services

Glyph does not use any third-party SDKs for analytics, advertising, attribution, A/B testing, or crash reporting beyond Apple's own. There are no trackers in the app.

Children's privacy

Glyph is not directed at children under 13. It does not knowingly collect data from anyone, regardless of age. The content displayed by extensions, however, depends on the sources you install, apply the Content Rating filter in Settings if appropriate.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy in a way that affects what we collect or share, we'll update the date above and announce the change in our Discord. Material changes will also be mentioned in app release notes.
